This anticipator may need periodic manual adjustments with the help of an amp meter to get a proper setting.Press the or button to change the set point temperature to the desired setting in 1˚ F increments (0.5˚ C). On mechanical (non-digital) thermostats, a heat anticipator is installed which needs to be set in accordance to the current draw on the thermostat circuit. If you happen to notice a big hole at the back of the thermostat, you can stuff some insulation in this hole, like cotton gauze, or cover it with non-conducting tape. Such a space can feed cool or warm air currents to its back. Make sure there is no hole or empty space behind the thermostat. Ideally, a thermostat’s installation should be close to where the filter is, so that it can sense and react to the temperature in the air handler. Similarly, if they are installed at places where there’s direct sunlight or near an outside door or window, you will face a similar problem. But instead, it will clock the temperature of the walls. If you have the thermostat mounted on a wall with a high thermal coefficient, then such a device will fail to offer you comfortable temperature, as it will never react properly to the air in the room. The most important factor you need to see is the place of installation. So, let’s quickly take a look at the problems and troubleshooting for a thermostat. Without it, one will have to control the temperatures manually, whenever we feel too hot or too cold. So now, you can imagine that any problem with thermostat can cause a lot of discomfort. The device responsible for regulating the temperature is called a thermostat. Why does this happen and what causes it? It happens because in both the cases mentioned above, there is a manually set temperature, which when attained, a device turns the system off, thereby stopping the flow of heat, so that a desired set temperature can be maintained. Have you ever noticed air conditioning systems switching on and off by themselves? If you have a conventional electric oven, you must have observed that heating coils stop heating after some time. The thermostat is one very vital component of all controlled temperature systems, and most of the system’s problems can be attributed to issues in the thermostat. With central cooling or heating systems controlling temperatures at our homes, offices, shopping malls and even car and buses, the relevance of air conditioning systems and their maintenance has grown. This technology is not only found in movie theaters, however, but it can also be seen in several virtual reality products, theme parks, home equipment, and more. ![]() This is done by movies being coded into the movement technology so that the motion of the seat is accurately in tune with the action on your screen.ĭepending on which location you go to you could be in a theater with almost exclusively D-Box seats (though not all may be activated, since the added movement comes with a higher price) or just a few designated seats situated somewhere near the middle, typically. ![]() It works like a simulated rollercoaster that marches to the beat of the film’s drum. At certain key points in the film that calls for it, you will be moved in tandem with the action in a scene. You can adjust the effects of the chair in four stages of intensity from very mild settings to full blast. It can throw you forward, tilt you from side to side, tilt you diagonally, and several other sensory effects that are made with the express purpose of enhancing the film you are watching. If I was trying to convince you as a friend I would say that D-Box is a company that produces seats that can improve certain visual mediums. If I was going to give you the marketing pitch, I would tell you that D-Box is a type of haptic technology designed with a focus on altering or intensifying the overall experience of a film, game, or simulated experience. They have even started developing a simulation that mimics the experience of driving in a Formula 1 race. The technology has spread like wildfire from the theater industry, to gaming and household recliners. Once D-Box started this downward sprint they seemed to gain massive traction throughout the industry, also working with Cinemark in several South American locations.įast forward to the current date, they have several hundred locations in over three dozen countries across the globe. The company had been asked to use their motion seating in the first Fast & Furious film and also opened up their first D-Box auditorium in a partnership with Cineplex. They continued to produce D-Box seats with mild success until 2009 when they appeared to find their stride. The biggest issue with these products was the exorbitant cost to make each one, making it easier for them to sell to theater companies rather than to households. This observation was taken into consideration and shortly after the beginning of the new millennium, they had their first iteration of D-Box seats. ![]() This was until several employees from D-Box took note that shoppers were placing their products around the perimeter of their couches, recliners, and chairs to create a simulated motion effect. Starting in 1998, D-Box was originally focused on making high-end subwoofers almost exclusively. How D-Box Startedīelieve it or not, this futuristic motion seating was not always the original intention of the company. ![]() To see whether or not these rumbling recliners are right for you, let’s take a deeper look at what D-Box entails. Naturally, this alternative format comes with a price hike and a fair bit of criticism, especially for the motion sick. With an industry now overrun with upgraded movie experiences, it was only natural that the immersion would spread to other parts of the theater that didn’t include the visual and auditory senses.ĭ-Box is the natural evolution of immersive technology geared towards improving the overall experience of the viewer. This can be traced back to the sixties with the inception of “Smell-o-vision” and has only continued as the years roll onward. CodeKit is free to try, but costs around $30 to buy. It compiles Sass files and is only available for Mac OSX. Setting Up a Sass Project With CodekitĬodeKit is my preferred GUI tool for writing Sass and I will use it in my examples below. In this three-part series, I’m going to give you an introduction to Sass based on the process I followed when building the the Web Talk Dog Walk site using Sass. Fortunately, there are GUI tools with easy-to-understand visual interfaces that make it easier to write Sass. But we don’t need to know anything about the command line, installing Ruby, or Ruby itself, to use Sass. Sass works using the command line, and it needs Ruby installed before it can do anything. I can never remember the right thing to type, and I’m terrified I’m going to accidentally type some “command of death” that wipes my computer out. ![]() The other reason I didn’t want to try Sass was the command line. There are fancy operations and functions that will satisfy the programmers, but there are also loads of cool things that just make writing CSS quicker and more efficient for the rest of us. But after taking the time to learn Sass, I found it isn’t all that complicated. Sass adds handy functions, variables and other script-like helpers that make CSS quicker to write and easier to maintain.Īt first, I avoided Sass because it seemed to be aimed at programmers (the documentation was full of programming terminology). When you write in the Sass language, you use a compiler to convert your Sass files – usually written in the. Airplay itself (the network protocol) is NOT involved in this process. Airplay uses a bunch of hardware h264 encoding technology that we’ve already got access to, so what happens here is that we use the same hardware to encode an output stream on the fly and fire it down the Lightning cable straight into the ARM SoC the guys at Panic discovered. Again, it’s just a high speed serial interface. Lightning doesn’t have anything to do with HDMI at all. It’s vastly the same thing with the HDMI adapter. From there, the data is decoded and sent over HDMI: It instead uses the same H.264 encoding technology as AirPlay to encode the output into the ARM SoC. According to a post that purports to be from an anonymous Apple engineer explaining how the cables function, Apple does not use Airplay protocol. One theory is that Apple was using an AirPlay wireless streaming protocol, but we’ve since learned that is not the case. Otherwise the feature set provided by Diet Coda is a great benefit to any on the go web developer. We reported over the weekend that there was some confusion over exactly how Apple’s new Lightning digital AV adapter works and why it lacks the ability to carry a native 1080p signal. This is why I feel this app needs to have offline support. If your iPad does not have internet, then this app will be useless to you. Otherwise, this is a very good app except for the essential need for Internet support. While Diet Coda is a great app, I cannot recommend it for very low vision or blind users, because of the lack of VoiceOver support. I also think that iCloud or Dropbox support would also go a long way to make users happy. One of these include the ability to have offline site storage like Coda for Mac OS X. Other than that the app is lacking a few features I think would make this app Stellar. Once a user sets up a site, It is impossible for a user to pick which site they want to work with, because Diet Coda does not have text labels or accessibility hints to help the user figure out which site they are selecting. The app is very graphical in nature, but Panic Software did not label all of its buttons to work well with VoiceOver. So how well does this app work for VoiceOver users?ĭiet Coda as good as it is, does not allow for much VoiceOver support. This app also lets a user login to their web server through SSH for server administration needs. Diet Coda lets a web developer write code and upload that code directly to a web server. Now, Panic has brought Coda to the iPad and has called it Diet Coda. On Mac OS X, Panic Software wrote a wonderful piece of software called Coda that has been around for many years. I have tried Markup, Gusto and others to accomplish this but none of these completely made a great experience as some editors on the Mac or PC could. I have always felt that the iPad would be a perfect device for Web Design, but I have not yet found the perfect web editor to accomplish this. |
